Happy (almost) May!
And welcome to our monthly roundup, “the links.”
Do you ever listen to music when a long summer rain’s trapped you in? ☔️Or when temps are soaring and the heat makes it hard to breathe?🥵
If so, I’ve got some songs for you. You heard it first:
The new Useful Fiction EP, Global Heat Wave, will release in May 2023.
I’ve been hard at work on these four songs—written in the fall semester and recorded in the spring.
A professional would include an exact release date in their announcement. I’ve been pulling 3AM nights wrapping my final semester in FL, so “May” will have to do.
What I can tell you is that I’ll be sending you (and new As It Were subscribers) the first song early, before it goes to streaming platforms. It’s a “thank you” for supporting my writing and the music.
If you like what I do, please consider sharing this newsletter with a friend. Lots of work goes into both projects, and they are free to be enjoyed. Sharing with a friend is the best way to support.✌️
For now, stream the first Useful Fiction EP (which I released last year) below:
(Even hearing these old songs, I get excited for you to hear the new. I’ve grown a lot, and I think you will enjoy them.🫶)
🏌️♂️ The Links
This month’s posts and podcasts. Catch what you missed or forward to a friend.
As It Were:
One consistent belief of this newsletter is that being thoughtful shouldn’t mean abandoning our humanity. To try to make smart decisions doesn’t mean to act as some robot.
I tried to revisit that theme in last week’s post, The Soul of Simlish, about a gibberish language that still makes sense.
Coming Along Nisly
This was one of my favorite episodes with Rich that I wanted to highlight:
Emotional Deadness & Making Sense of Gibberish
The Ladder of Abstraction & Should Families Focus on the Past?
What is “the links”?
A monthly roundup of three parts: another look, something to share, and the links.
There’s no shortage of things to read/watch/listen to. With this roundup, I ease off of sending “more” and highlight work I think you’ll enjoy.
Monthly Schedule
1st Monday: essay
2nd Monday: poem
3rd Monday: essay
4th Monday: the links
Thank you as always for being here!
