For better or worse, the places we live make an imprint on us as people.
Since I gave Ohio drivers a bit of a hard time last week, I thought I’d publish this poem to make things right. I wrote this over a year ago for a class assignment about our hometown.
Northeast Ohio natives may notice shifts between Hartville, Canton, Cleveland, and the state itself. Isn’t that cheating? Fair enough. It’s more than one hometown.
When someone asks where I’m from, I adjust my answer depending on the conversation. I think this is a common experience. It’s not that I’m of many minds; it’s that I’m zooming in and out on the map.
For those in other parts of the country, I’m curious how your hometown is similar or different to mine. Overall, I hope we can pause to appreciate the places we’re from.

Amish my Home
O H I O
The Buckeye State
The Brownie’s Throne
My village has
So much to do
The Kitchen and
The Hardware too
There’s no debate
Our lake is great
More rest’rants than
The Empire State
Come hop our trains
Traverse the plains
Get lost and found
Inside our maize
Give Jack your bets
You won’t regret
And HELL IS REAL
So don’t forget
Amish my Home
The Brownie's Throne
